New Sun Road’s Stellar platform is monitoring and controlling Nuru’s 1.32 MW hybrid microgrid. Inaugurated in February 2020, the plant consists of four thousand 335W panels, batteries and a backup generator with a total capacity of 364kW. This microgrid serves about 750 households.

In 2020 New Sun Road helped bring together a coalition to upgrade existing solar infrastructure in rural Puerto Rico to improve these communities’ connectivity and resilience. Microsoft Airband, Blue Planet Energy, Red Verde (VPNet), Por los Nostros, and New Sun Road came together to make improvements to local systems. These included advanced controls, energy storage, internet access and reliable power for critical services such as pumping well water and communications.
BoxPower installed a two stand alone hybrid power systems equipped with New Sun Road’s Stellar Microgrid OS(TM). The Stellar platform provides the intelligence – the remote data collection, real-time monitoring, and controls – that enables BoxPower to significantly reduce generator usage. This cuts the cost of operations by thousands of dollars a month while improving the air quality at the shelter.
