Description
Oak Ridge National Laboratory and New Sun Road were selected for a Department of Energy (DOE) Technology Commercialization Fund award to commercialize the Microgrid Orchestrator, a control technology that optimizes the performance of networked microgrids. A hardware-in-the-loop demonstration was used to validate the performance and benefits of the Microgrid Orchestrator embedded within the Stellar Microgrid OS™ energy management platform.
Results
During grid-connected operation, networking the microgrids reduced the customer’s total operating cost by 11%. During islanded operation, networking the microgrids allowed the customer to experience a 20% average uptime improvement.
