Remote microgrids are being deployed for wildfire mitigation. Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is implementing New Sun Road’s remote monitoring and control platform on all stand-alone power installations to eliminate overhead lines in high-fire-risk areas. Andrew Mulherkar (Expert Product Manager, Microgrid Policy & Pricing Strategy at PG&E) cited that PG&E estimates that remote grids reduce wildfire ignition risk by 98% compared to conventional overhead power lines
Peter Asmus (Executive Director, Alaska Microgrid Group) highlights how remote microgrids offer the possibility to incorporate the greatest diversity of renewable power generation. Michael Goldbach (New Sun Road’s Chief Product Officer) explained how technology developed in the frontier markets of Africa provides a reliable, innovative cost-effective solution for utilities.
This trio of industry leaders presented at the 16th Microgrid Innovation Forum North America held down the road from New Sun Road’s company headquarters in Oakland, California in December 2022. Check out the video to hear more about the discussion.
