It all starts with a mom, Randy Ross. Her daughter is Shivani Ganguly, New Sun Road’s Chief Financial Officer. Shivani has worked at New Sun Road for about 3 years. She is dedicated to sustainability and our mission to accelerate energy and internet access to everyone, especially those in underserved communities.
In early January 2022, New Sun Road’s founders were featured on the Lab to Startup Podcast hosted by Naresh Sunkara. And Shivani’s mom, Randy Ross was inspired to write about the strong sense of connection that she felt to New Sun Road’s story and the work her daughter was doing.
“I listened with immense fascination to the podcast interview with Jalel Sager, Austin Cappon, and Jonathan Lee.
As a 1960’s UC Berkeley graduate (B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology), I felt an instant kinship to these young social entrepreneurs who are carrying on the spirit of that unique era. Their commitment to the undeniable need for solar energy in our existential climate crisis relieves just a bit the anxiety I frequently feel, as a 77-year-old “codger,” for the environmental future of my children’s and grandchild’s generations.
Their commitment, despite enormous challenges, to bring New Sun Road’s solar products to remote and developing parts of the world is inspiring. Added to all that is NSR’s commitment to supporting women as technology leaders in its projects, particularly in Guatemala. New Sun Road reminds me that the efforts of my generation of feminist, internationalist activists planted seeds that are growing into forests.”
Shivai added, “My mom’s activism and leadership has always been an inspiration to me. As she chose to focus her work on one of the most important issues of her time, diversity and equity in education, I choose to focus on the climate crisis.”
